Toni Hellman
Toni was a couple of weeks old when he went sailing the first time and his sail racing career started at the age of 14. Toni has spent his youth sail racing in different competitions on a local and national level and in a couple of Gotland Runts in Sweden. He has also taken a different approach to the marine life in the Finnish navy. After the military he raced a Jeanneau SunFast 3200 and in 2012 Toni was a main sail trimmer on an X-332, for example. This guy has sailed and raced dozens of boats and is now the brave skipper of our Farr 40.

Team members
Sail racing is a team sport and above all a team sport – unless you are a dinghy sailor, of course. In 2013 we were a group of more or less ten people. Special thanks belong to all of those who were a part of the team but are not mentioned below!
In 2014 you could be one of us! Please contact us and join the team or become a true fan. Below you can find out more about the team members.
Kai Kortelainen
After starting his active sail racing career in 2007, Kai has competed on national and international level with an X-332. He has participated in ORCi National and World Championships. Kai has most experience in main sail trimming and that is his current area of expertise too.
Joonas Vasama
Joonas started sailing in late 1980s and racing around the millenium. Joonas has collected around 200 starts in handicap, one design and match race competitions. Like many others in the team, Joonas has also raced Esa Mach’s X-332 (see below). In the recent past Joonas has been operating Jib 1/spinnaker.

Visa Nummiora
Visa got his first sailing experience with a traditional Hai boat in late 1980s. During childhood, neighbours’ dinghy was soon replaced by his own E-dinghy which he still owns. Like most of the team members, Visa has since been sailing with various boats and also experienced the Finnish navy. Visa has sailed a large variety of boats and his family currently owns an OE36 that he likes to sail on his free time. When it comes to racing, Visa is doing a good job operating the Jib 2/spinnaker on our Farr 40.

Lassi Vuorinen
Lassi was taken into the archipelago at a young age by his grandfather. Like many in the team, Lassi sailed slightly bigger boats in the Finnish navy and familiarized himself with sailing and sail racing slightly after in 2006. Toni offered Lassi a job “in the industry” and meanwhile taught Lassi the secrets of sailing. Different sailing-related business and pleasure activities have been a part of Lassi’s life since 2006; sail racing started properly during season 2013. Lassi is a freestyler and a navigator.
Anssi Arimaa
Anssi has been sailing since he was a little boy. In 2011 he started to sail an X-40 as a skipper and ended up racing the boat with a very inexperienced team. Team’s performance was not great but to Anssi sail racing had come to stay. Things led to another and in 2013 Anssi found himself sailing the Mare bos team in the ORCi European Champiosnhips. Anssi is a freestyler.
Henri Harka
Sailing career stated at an early age for Henri. Lately he has been racing the same X-332 as many others in the team and has since become the bowman of the Farr 40. To his own opinion, Henri is mentally and physically the strongest team member; he believes that the long offshore regatta in the European Championships he sailed with zero sleep proves him right. Yes, another funny guy this bowman of ours.
Kalle Poso
Kalle is also a first generation sailor to whom the first date with a sailing boat in 2012 was all it took. In 2013 Kalle was already a Mare bos team member. Kalle says that his previous experience is from cruise and rowing boats, and presumes that he is part of the team due to his ability to hang in the ropes and to keep his mouth shut about the serious-sounding business in the cockpit. Funny guy this mastman.
Juuso Jokinen
Juuso is a newcomer in the team and very enthusiastic one, too. His sailing background is mainly limited to holiday trips on various sailing boats. This pitman joined Mare bos in 2013; nowadays he sails in the seas during summer and excel sheets during winter – planning is everything.
Jussi Haapalehto
At a couple of weeks’ age Jussi experienced his first sailing trip. When he was slightly older he was a brave skipper of a dinghy which he raced on a national and international level. The next natural step was a Lazer that he also raced. After some years Jussi found himself longing after keel boats and finally ended up visiting a couple of teams during the 2013 season. He was Mare bos’ stuntman in 2013 and turned out to be so good that he was asked to be a full member of the Mare Bos team for the 2014 season.

Esa Mach
This tactician, somewhat of a Gandalf to the Mare bos team, is the reason why many of these guys are sailing so good. Esa’s X-332 boat (a local rival) and Esa himself have played an important teaching and mentoring role in many of the Mare Bos sailing team guys’ sailing career – a reason why many of these guys have Esa to thank for their sail racing career and success. Locally this guy keeps on winning awards and came 11th in the World Championships in 2012. During the 2013 season Esa was also Mare bos’ toughest rival with his X-332 boat “Dat wor et” in local races.

YOU?
We practice and race quite a lot. Every now and then, when one of us is not able to participate, we need men and women to step in and race with us. Are you interested? We guarantee a great experience for all who are interested in sail racing. As you can see in the above descriptions, you don’t need to have years of sailing experience. We value enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to learn new things. Of course, we do admit, that some experience does not do you any harm.
